What does it mean to Parent Up?
“Parenting up” is a term that Ismet and Mark created. We believe that it is what needs to happen as part of growing up. When we are at a stage in our lives when we assume responsibility for others, our job is not only to help our children grow and evolve but we also have the responsibility to continue to grow and evolve as parents. This dual responsibility needed a specific name and we refer to it as “Parenting up.” We believe this concept is different from what is defined as “parenting” because parenting refers only to the responsibility for raising the child. However we have found that in order to raise a child, we as parents also have to continue to evolve and grow and, this is what “parenting up” includes. A parent and child growing up together. Why register? Have you ever picked up a parenting book and spent hours reading the sage advice it offers? Have you then tried to apply the strategies they suggest in your own family, only to discover that they don’t work? If your answer is “Yes?” then you are ready for something different. In this course we will guide you the creation of your own parenting guide. A guide that is custom made for your family with all it’s wonderful unique idiosyncrasies. We would have written that guide for you, except that we are not the experts on your family. We don’t know your goals or your challenges. We certainly don’t know the personalities involved. Therefore it makes no sense for us to give you parenting advice. We believe that you have the answers within you and this course provides you with the means to discover them. You bring all the key ingredients. Your expert knowledge. Your motivation. Your vision. We provide you with the tools that you can use to create new solutions every time that you are presented with new challenges. How does the course work? The Parenting Up Online course includes videos, journaling exercises, challenges, a private learning community to share your insights with, and a fillable manual that will become your parenting guide for life. You can complete each module at your own pace in the comfort of your home. You can even invite a friend or co-parent to complete the course with you! In order to get the most from this course, we recommend that you dedicate 1 to 2 hours per week to completing each module. You can even benefit from this course when you become a grandparent. When should I start this course - when my child is what age? It’s never too soon or too late! - you can even take the course before you have children - because at that time you have a chance to start practicing what you will be preaching and you have time to think and plan before you get to the firefighting stage of parenting life. What if my spouse or co-parent doesn’t take this course? Can I still benefit from it on my own? Absolutely! You still have the ability to influence the outcome regardless of whether your co-parent(s) join the course. You may even surprise yourself as you start to lead the way to new approaches for the other adults who share the responsibility of parenting with you. |
